# Backups & Google Drive

> Link your Google Drive in the Backups tab of the Portal and save automatic backups of your server, on the Free Tier and on every paid plan.

Every server in the Portal has a **Backups** tab — on the Free Tier as well as on all paid plans and game servers. There you can link your own **Google Drive** account and have backups of your server saved there automatically.

## What you'll learn

- Who can use Google Drive backups
- How to link your Google Drive account and choose how often backups run
- How to restore a backup
- How Google Drive backups relate to the backups we make before a paid service is suspended

---

## Who Can Use It

| Server | Backups tab with Google Drive |
| :--- | :--- |
| Free Tier | Yes |
| App & Bot Hosting (Bronze / Silver / Gold), splits included | Yes |
| Game servers (Quest → Legend) | Yes |

Linking Google Drive is free. The backups are stored in your own Google Drive and use its storage, not your server's disk.

---

## Link Your Google Drive

**Step 1: Open the Backups tab**

In the Portal, open your server and go to the **Backups** tab.

**Step 2: Connect your Google account**

Choose to link Google Drive and sign in with the Google account whose Drive should store the backups. Confirm the access request from Google.

**Step 3: Choose the backup interval**

Choose how often your server is backed up, for example:

| Interval | Good for |
| :--- | :--- |
| Every 6 hours | Servers that change a lot, such as busy game servers |
| Every 12 hours | Active projects |
| Every 24 hours | Most bots and apps |
| Every 2 days | Projects that change now and then |
| Every 3 days | Projects that rarely change |

More intervals are available in the **Backups** tab. Backups then run automatically — you don't need to keep the Portal open.

---

## Restore a Backup

1. Open your Google Drive and download the backup you want to restore.
2. In the Portal, stop your server.
3. Upload the backup in the **Files** tab and extract it, or upload the files and folders it contains directly. See [File Manager](https://daki.cc/wiki/guides/file-manager).
4. Start your server again.

---

## Why Your Own Drive

- **Your copy, your account:** the backups are in your Google Drive, so they stay available even if your server is suspended or deleted. This matters most on the Free Tier, where Daki cannot recover a deleted server.
- **Automatic:** once linked, you don't have to remember to download your files.
- **Under your control:** you can delete old backups in your Drive at any time or unlink the account.

---

## Unlink Google Drive

Unlink your account in the **Backups** tab whenever you like. You can also remove Daki's access in your Google account under **Security → Third-party apps & services**. Backups already saved stay in your Drive until you delete them.

## Google Drive Backups vs Backups Before Suspension

| | Google Drive backups | Backups before suspension |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| **Available for** | All servers, Free Tier and paid | Expired paid services |
| **When** | Automatically at the interval you choose (e.g., every 6 hours to every few days) | Once, when the service period ends |
| **Stored in** | Your own Google Drive | Daki, encrypted |
| **Available until** | You delete them | The service is deleted (7 days after suspension) |

See [Backups Before Suspension](https://daki.cc/wiki/guides/billing#backups-before-suspension) for the backups we make when a paid service expires.
